The Puget Sound wine grape growing region, surrounding Seattle in Northwest Washington state, includes the state's third designated American Viticultural Area (AVA). It has Washington's only natural grape growing climate where rainfall, sunshine and heat allow the raising of wine grapes without irrigation. Contrary to popular lore, many vineyards have less rainfall than those in Bordeaux or Burgundy and nearly no rain during the critical growing season. The cool, maritime influence of the Puget Sound with long sunlight hours of its northerly location are ideal for growing delicate and aromatic vinifera grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Siegerrebe and Madeleine Angevine.
The Puget Sound's locally grown wines are best paired with the regions fresh seafood, fruits and dairy products. These family owned vineyards and wineries bring you the quintessential flavors of the Puget Sound.
